Why do we bury so quickly?

20 years ago, I learned that my uncle had died, and that the funeral had already happened a few days earlier.  Why was he buried so quickly?

The answer is in this week’s portion.  It states that if an executed criminal is hung on a tree, the Jews shall bury him “that very day” (Deut. 21:23).  Nachmanides points out that if an executed criminal should not be disgraced by being left out hanging for more than a day, kol vachomer (even more so) the same rule should apply to us noncriminals.
