Dvar Torah- Vayekhel-Pekudei

This week’s Torah portion includes the completion of the Tabernacle.  At the end of the Jews’ work, “Moses saw that they had performed all the tasks… [and] Moses blessed them.” (Exodus 39:42).

Sarna notes that this ending “is patterned after the Creation narrative in Genesis, in which the completion of the work evoked Divine approbation followed by a blessing.”  And God commands Moses to finish the task on “the first day of the first month” (40:1).

Why?  Maybe after the whole Golden Calf unpleasantless, the Tabernacle is a new beginning for the Hebrews, a time to show that they really, really want to be on God’s team. Thus, it makes sense for the Torah to describe it is a new creation.
