Dvar Torah-Vayekhel

Friday night I was listening to someone talk about some midrash or other about how we have an “additional soul” on Shabbat. But what does this mean?

Arama has an answer.  He qu0tes another midrash saying that Shabbat was given to Israel to study Torah, and that this “is an aspect… of the additional soul.”  I think he is saying that our Torah study is the additional, or heightened soul.  Since (when alone) I spend my shabbatot studying Torah (or at least Jewish history, which usually encompasses some element of same, or the historical context of same) that makes sense to me.
